Everyone who competes in the games exercises self-control in all things. So they do it to obtain a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable.

In ancient Roman traditions, a wreath or a crown were often used to mean the same thing - the highest honor awarded in competitions. In a race, only one athlete may win a prize. But every believer who faithfully follows Christ is promised an incorruptible crown (wreath).
